Adam Elliot

at the end of the day I am making the film for myself. It’s all for very selfish reasons. I am making a film that I would like to go and see and I just hope the rest of the world does too.

I don’t obsess about plot and I don’t obsess about the three act structure. I just hope that by the third or fourth draft those basics are there somehow. I start off with the details and work backwards.”.

“All my characters have “flaws,” and I believe everyone has a flaw of some description and degree. So many of us hide our flaws. My aim is to highlight and celebrate people’s imperfections and to emphasise that no one is pure or perfect.”

Adam Elliot grew up on a shrimp farm in South Australia with two brothers and one sister.  His father was a retired acrobatic clown and his mother was a hairdresser.  But the shrimp farm failed and the family moved to Melbourne where his father bought a hardware shop.  Adam spent five years studying photography, pottery and other arts, before enrolling in the animation section at the Victorian College of Arts.  Uncle, his first, award-winning film was his student film.  His films have garnered many awards, including an Oscar for Harvie Krumpet.  He is currently writing a children’s book.
