“all credit to the cast that they carry us effortlessly through moments of both gross-out farce and intensely terrifying conflict. And then have the nerve to go for an ending that's almost ludicrously sweet. But by then we're part of the family too.” Rich Cline - Shadows on the Wall
“Down creates a world full of vibrant life; a wonderful collection of characters, a lived-in suburban Australia and a home that’s alive with meaningful clutter and bustle. This is an irresistible film with a tough mind and a gentle heart.” Tom Ryan in The Sunday Age M Magazine
Elissa Down grew up with two autistic brothers and in this film she shows us the joys and difficulties of living with autism. What could so easily have been a ‘worthy’ but boring, maybe even depressing film, is in fact a joyful celebration of an ordinary family coping with the extraordinary. It features outstanding performances from its ensemble cast and is one of the favourites for this year’s AFI Awards,
Perhaps it’s a bit of a surprise but feel the joy of a family coping with difference.
