“Kokkinos is never backward in confronting her audience, but she’s also a sensitive portrayer of emotions that are basic to us all and with this marvellous film she has created her best work so far.”  David Stratton - At the Movies

“Love, hate and everything in between is artistically splashed on a sizzling-hot canvas with no restrictive frame. Our hearts lurch violently the whole while and even though I felt bruised, I also felt energized and completely satisfied by the experience.”  Louise Keller, Urbancinefile

The great Australian films just keep on coming.  Adapted from the play, Who’s Afraid of the Working Class, the same writers have given us a tale of mothers and children and the ties that bind - or don’t.  Divided into two sections, The Children and The Mothers we get to see some of the same situations from differing points of view.  Fragmented like the lives of its protagonists, this is a deeply involving film.  You will feel its reality, even if its a reality you do not share.  Frances O’Connor is outstanding, but she is more than ably supported by Miranda Otto, Deborra-Lee Furness, William McInnes and a plethora of promising young newcomers.
