How Much Do You Love Me?

May 19

“a beguiling examination of the cost of love in all the ways that one pays for passion.”

In which a balding, unprepossessing man wins a lottery and spends it on buying the full-time attentions of a high-class prostitute, with the the complications which inevitably follow. What ensues is quintessentially Bernard Blier, unsettling, occasionally irritating say some, but always fascinating and provocative.

Monica Belluci is the face (and the body) on display here.  She represents  an ideal of female beauty, unattainable by ‘normal’ men, although, somewhat ironically she is for sale - a prostitute - and therefore, theoretically, available to all.  But what does ‘available’ mean?  Can one buy love?  In this film that concept is explored with dark humour touched with compassion.
