Reminds us of how truly brilliant filmmaking needs none of the technology and bombast Hollywood has come to depend on.”  Brian Webster - Apollo Guide

“If Scott Thomas’ performance, with her limpid, wounded eyes and her brittle, angular physique, is the movie’s face, then Elsa Zylberstein’s Léa is, in a sense, its mainspring.”  Jim Lane - Sacramento News and Review

The French do this kind of film so well - a taut psychological drama set within a family with secrets gradually revealed, relationships explored and characters undergoing a transformative experience.  In this film we are presented with two sisters, one fifteen years older than the other at the moment when the older sister leaves jail after fifteen years.  She struggles to return to the world, and her sister struggles to understand her.  The performances by the two women are outstanding, the story is moving and slow burning.  Watch as Kristin Scott Thomas transforms herself into a woman gradually coming to terms with her new life.
