“a throwback to another time when films were allowed to be unhurried, when audiences trusted multiple story lines to converge organically, and time and place were evoked with consummate craft.” Brandon Fibbs - Colorado Springs Gazette
“A measured, brooding meander through dreams of loyalty, shadows of treachery, and the particular psychoses of celebrity for those on both sides of stardom...” MaryAnn Johanson - The Flick Filosopher
Jesse James is an American legend, here played by a contemporary Hollywood legend, Brad Pitt. Nearing the end of his career and with massive rewards for his capture or death, he no longer knows who to trust. Beautiful to look at, this long film is a contemplation of fame and its dangers, and also of a time when the wild west was becoming less wild.
Enjoy two actors at the top of their game - both were nominated for Oscars in a very competitive year - and the parallels between two apparently different times - 19th and 21st century America.
