“I’m interested in showing that as individuals we grapple with the world around us but we are also cogs in the process of events, and we are not always either in control or conscious of this”
“when you make a documentary, you don’t control what happens or how it appears on the screen. You can’t determine the outcome of the story and what becomes of the characters. I prefer to have the control when I make a film.”
On the net there are lots of interviews with this director, but very little biographical information. I have no idea what his family background is, other than that his grandfather was a baker. He graduated from France’s most prestigious film school and his first short, Tous à la Manif won many awards. His first feature film, Human Resources was very well received, as have been his subsequent features, including the Palme d’Or for The Class.
