“A sober-hearted take on the righteous blowback from whittled-away souls, and a movie that invariably rights itself with each return to the beautifully steely gaze of Abbass.”  Robert Abele - Los Angeles Times

“Riklis offers no answers. In fact, he avoids preaching altogether, showing the Middle East mess from every angle, personalizing the political while avoiding cheap sentiment. This is a film about a problem, not a solution, and it's effectively upsetting. Tom Long - Detroit News

Apparently based on a real incident, Israeli director Eran Riklis, here tries to show that a seemingly unsolvable situation could indeed be resolved if only people would talk to each other.  Perhaps a little simplistic, the film is saved by yet another outstanding performance by the serenely rivetting Hiam Abbass.  A Palestinian widow’s lemon orchard is threatened by her neighbour - the Israeli Minister of Defence, who sees it as a threat to his security - it could hide terrorists.  But our heroine will not accept that her orchard will have to go.  It is all she has left and she sets out to fight for it - in the process transforming the ideas of the Minister’s wife.
