Mary and Max

“Only long after the film, and with considerable effort, do you have to remind yourself that what you went all weak-kneed and misty-eyed over was a blob of plasticine - a superbly directed blob of plasticine.” Jim Schembri - The Age
“The most surprisingly moving film of the year, an experience that literally knocked me back as it brought tears to my eyes.” Brian Tallerico - Movie Retriever
The story at the heart of this amazing film is based on a true story. It portrays the real lives of sad and lonely people with problems, but with loving hearts, and the powerful friendship that grows between two people who live on opposite sides of the world. And yet the story is portrayed in a completely unrealistic way, using plasticine. Thus do we experience one of the most complete transformations of reality seen on screen, in which we become so involved that we forget that we are not watching real people. The voice cast is distinguished and excellent. Be proud to be Australian!
