Matthew Saville

“I just wanted to make a film that celebrated human beings and the fact that even though the world is a difficult place and sometimes it’s easier not to behave well, that we still have an instinct to try to be good and that it’s difficult to remain good. It’s a struggle but we do it and occasionally we succeed and I think that’s noble.”

Matthew  Saville moved to Melbourne from Adelaide in 1985 and graduated in Graphic  Design from Swinburne in 1989.  Initially he worked in advertising but then went to VCA to learn about film.  He began his career designing titles for TV.  He made many critically well-received short films and Roy Hollsdotter Live which won a prize at the Sydney Film Festival in 2003.  He has directed many successful TV series, including We Can Be Heroes, and The Secret Life of Us .  He is also working on an opera.
