Romulus my Father

“Beautifully capturing life on the land, the film is involving and moving.”

This was the CFS members’ most requested film by a very long way, so an easy choice for this year’s program.  Yet again, a child plays a central role, in this tale of migrants in the Australian bush.  How strange that experience must have been for anyone coming from a European culture.   Add to that the mental instability of the mother and marital infidelity and you have an engrossing story of  ‘difference’  - played out against a beautiful, yet bleak backdrop.  Richard Roxburgh - a ‘creative face’ himself, has drawn remarkable performances from his cast, which includes Eric Bana returning to his Australian roots after a spell inHollywood, and Franke Potente of Run Lola Run fame.  Adapted from Raimond Gaita’s best-selling memoir with his blessing.

Winner of Best Film, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Awards at the AFI Awards 2007
