The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

“Screenwriter Ronald Harwood turns this first person novel into an intensely first person movie. There are times when it seems impossible that a camera could even be present, the surroundings are so perfectly interior to a man. Amazing..” Karina Montgomery - Cinerina

“a sensational cinematic canvas created by a man who understands the inherent beauty in form, function, and now filmmaking.  Bill Gibron - PopMatters

Another film based on an autobiography, this time written by a man who is only able to communicate by blinking one eye.  Jean-Dominique Bauby was the editor-in-chief of Elle and not an attractive personality.  A sudden stroke leaves him almost totally incapacitated and he now has to live life in his mind.  Directed by the artist Julian Schnabel the film is remarkable in it’s ability to make us see what this world would be like.

Enjoy the difference of life lived entirely in the mind but expressed in a poetically visual and uniquely empathetic way.
