“A dark fairy tale from Russia, it pulls you into a richly atmospheric, persuasively inhabited world teeming with foundlings and pathos.”
A young boy in an orphanage deep in modern day Russia, sees a young mother turned away whilst seeking news of her child she had given up for adoption. A candidate for adoption by some wealthy Italians, this incident spurs him into a journey of discovery with untold consequences.
This dark, Dickensian view of modern Russia is nevertheless shot through with warmth and black humour and features an outstanding performance from its young lead.
